I was finally able to watch the movie and post. It is crazy to believe that we are done with another week of class. Watching that movie really opened my eyes to individuals living with disabilities. It was amazing that Sam was able to raise his daughter with his disability with no problems until she was turning 8. He did a great job of keeping Lucy safe and healthy with minimal assistance from friends.
I liked that Rita was willing to take on the case. Instead of just showing up at court she helped in anyway that she could. I thought that was great as I am not sure that would happen in real life.
In all it was a great movie and it even made me tear up at one point.

Week 13
This week we are suppose to watch a movie but I haven't had time to go to Block Bluster to rent a movie or to watch it.. I am hoping that I will have time over the weekend to get this done as I don't want to miss out on a week of class.. In the past I watched the Johnny Deep movie and thought it was a little odd so I do not think I will be renting that one as I couldn't sit through it the first time around so I think this time it will be a little more challenging to watch it..

Crazy Week
This has been one crazy week! At work last Friday we did intake on one of our toughest clients and I am the on call person, this weeks homework, and my boyfriend has his two kids for school break (so we have three kids yelling at all times)...
With the new client I am helping do most of what I worked on in class at the office.. It was nice to be able to help while learning the correct way of how to do it.. But with doing the intake on a Friday I never realized how many calls or text messages one person could get around a new client. This was the first time I assisted with doing an intake and it was a real eye opener. And I am pretty sure I will never want to do an intake on a Friday again. So it made for a long weekend and week..
This week it was nice to learn the correct way to do a contact note as I have always been a little unclear of what to put in and what not to put in the note.

Week Eleven
This week we discussed working in teams and how each member in a team works. I think the team approach would work best. When you work as a team they are people you can bounce your ideas off others and the others can bounce off their ideas. With all the ideas you can formulate a great program that will best suite the client. Also if the program doesn't work then the team can sit down and discuss the plan and tweak it so it works for the client.
With the teams that were put together in the book I thought the client's would really benefit. I think this because the teams has enough of a spectrum of people in different aspects to better asses the needs of the client.
I think it would only really work with the team is willing to work together if your trying to get the PCP, PT, OT, SLP's to work as a team and they are not willing to it isn't going to work. But if they are willing then the team will go high.

Case Files
This week in class we worked on making up a client and then making a case file for the client. We also talked about what we would do at an initial meet and greet with the client. I have had the pleasure of sitting in a few new client meetings and I have noticed that they are never the same. You can go in prepared by reading their files and all the documents you can gather but with all the preparations you do your meeting a person and with that said things will change. Plus meeting someone new it is fine just to sit there and not say anything about what you already to know but to just listen to what the person has to say and get a sense of what you are getting into.
I have found that with meeting a new client I am just as nervous as the person I am meeting with. So it's nice to go in talking about the weather or the drive that way your loosen up the situation a little before talking about the person..
I found what the book had to say to be very useful and gave some great tips. There was a lot of information and I can't wait to use it in real life situations.
